Counties Power's Workshop Changes Hands

24 April 2017
Counties Power’s engineering and heavy vehicle servicing business unit, The Workshop, has been sold. The change of ownership takes effect on 26 April 2017, trading as The Workshop Est 1924 Limited.

Counties Power Chief Executive Sheridan Broadbent says The Workshop was sold to allow Counties Power to focus on growing new opportunities more aligned to its core distribution business, such as storage and managed services for major energy users.  The Company’s priority remains upon supplying safe, cost effective and reliable electricity to the fastest growing region in New Zealand.

“While this is the end of an era, it is a very exciting outcome for Counties Power, our Workshop staff and, we believe, local customers and businesses looking for an innovative, growth orientated local provider of engineering and heavy automotive services.  We wish the new business well for the future.”

The business will remain at the same location at 14 Glasgow Road for at least the next two years, but will be operated independently from Counties Power.  The new company has a service agreement to supply maintenance to Counties Power’s heavy vehicle fleet and manufacture goods for its electricity network.

The businesses name The Workshop Est. 1924 Limited speaks to the origins of the business which began in 1924 as part of Franklin Electric Power Board.

The skilled and specialised staff, some of whom have been with Counties Power for more than 30 years, have been retained by the new owner.

Customers can now contact The Workshop Est 1924 Limited directly on 09 2370354 or visit www.theworkshop1924.co.nz for truck and diesel servicing and/or engineering needs.
