Coastguard Waiuku and Counties Power join forces

13 June 2017

Coastguard Waiuku and local electricity distributor Counties Power have announced a new partnership.

The three-year sponsorship deal sees Counties Power become the naming rights sponsor of Coastguard Waiuku’s 4.8m rescue vessel – now known as Counties Power Rescue -  and a sponsor of their main towing vehicle.

The sponsorship was officially signed today by Counties Power Chief Executive Sheridan Broadbent and Coastguard Waiuku President Nigel Griffiths.

Counties Power Chief Executive Sheridan Broadbent says it is a natural partnership between the two local organisations.

“Coastguard Waiuku plays a crucial role in ensuring safety at sea in our region, and as critical infrastructure provider with safety as our key priority, this relationship is a true reflection of our company values at work.  We are in awe of the hard work Coastguard Waiuku puts into keeping our community safe and are excited that we can support the important work they do.”

With 30 volunteers on call and 68 people brought home safely from rescues, Coastguard Waiuku’s  area of operation includes the Waikato River up as far as Huntly, the Waikato River Bar, the West Coast up to 12 nautical miles out to sea, the Manukau bar and the south coast of the Manukau harbour.

Coastguard Waiuku President Nigel Griffiths says the sponsorship allows the charitable organisation, which relies on donations, fundraising, grants and sponsorships, to stay in operation.

“With the support of Counties Power we can continue to maintain our fleet’s operating costs and ensure they are in top working order for when it counts most – saving lives.  We look forward to creating a wonderful partnership with Counties Power to help safeguard Franklin.”

Counties Power actively supports the communities in which it operates.  Other major sponsorships include naming rights sponsor of the CMRFU’s Counties Power Cup, the Counties Power Heat women’s representative rugby side, Pukekohe Netball, the Franklin Primary Schools Triathlon, the major fundraising event for every primary school in the area (either a Calf Club/Ag Day or Gala Day) and Project X, an intermediate school engineering program.  They also support various other initiatives including the Duck Boat Derby, Pukekohe Scout and Guides, Franklin Arts Festival, Rotary and the Franklin A&P show.
