Slow down for safety on work sites

11 October 2018

“Please be mindful of workers in our community and follow traffic management safety measures.” That’s the message coming from Counties Power Chief Executive Judy Nicholl after a field worker was struck by a car in Pukekohe last week.

The vehicle driver, speeding and distracted while using their phone, drove straight through traffic management safety measures and cones, striking a Counties Power worker in the legs. Luckily, the staff member escaped serious injury, receiving only minor bruising.

Judy says this is an important and timely message to the public as with the drier weather more utilities and road works are undertaken. “Please slow down through work sites, follow all traffic management in place and never use your phone while driving.  We’re extremely thankful that our team member received only minor injuries however the situation could have been much worse.  Our number one priority is to bring our team home safely every day, but to do this we also need our community’s help.”

In this case the driver has been dealt with by Police.
